The ancient Egyptians believed that before a person could get to the afterlife, that they had to pass through the underworld. The underworld was a place that was full of terrifying monsters and dangerous animals. A person would need magic to successfully overcome these threats.
In our English lessons we have been learning how to write a balanced argument. What are the features of a balanced argument? Can you give some examples?
Today we have been learning about the moon. We learned a lot of facts about the moon. Can you explain why the moon changes shape? What is a lunar eclipse? Why does the moon stay up in the sky? What effects does the moon have on our planet? How long does it take for the moon to orbit the Earth? Form 3 Egyptian Morning
Form 3 took part in the second of their Egyptian mornings, this time run by Catherine Conyard from Historical Interpretations. Children got the chance to handle artefacts and had to try and work out what they were - the most difficult ones are pictured below. The long wooden artefact is in fact a drill and the dark wooden artefact on the bench is a wooden pillow! Children also played Egyptian games and mummified a body in preparation for its journey to the afterlife. It was a great morning and children learnt lots of new facts about the period. In geography we made up animals and wrote a descriptions about them. They were all based on animals from tropical rainforests around the world.
We are learning about the Ancient Egyptians in History. We have been learning about their daily life and had a go at creating our own tomb paintings.
Form 3 enjoyed a stimulating morning of drama and discussion in a Macbeth workshop. The children were deeply engrossed and focused during the entire morning. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to be involved in acting out and exploring this classic Shakespearean drama in a fun practical way; they were all very enthusiastic and willing to dress up and get involved. It was a pleasure to witness the children in a different light allowing their Macbeth characters to flow. |
