Today we have been learning about the moon. We learned a lot of facts about the moon. Can you explain why the moon changes shape? What is a lunar eclipse? Why does the moon stay up in the sky? What effects does the moon have on our planet? How long does it take for the moon to orbit the Earth?

A very thorough answer Harriet. Can you find out how often a lunar eclipse occurs?

The moon appears to change shape as it reflects back the suns light and it's shape changes as it orbits the earth and it's position changes relative to the sun and earth.

the sun always stays in the same place we orbit the sun and spin at the same time.it takes a year for the earth to go round the sun and it takes a day to do a spin.

The Moon (or Luna) is the Earth’s only natural satellite and was formed 4.6 billion years ago around some 30–50 million years after the formation of the solar system. The Moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth meaning the same side is always facing the Earth. The first unmanned mission to the Moon was in 1959 by the Soviet Lunar Program with the first manned landing being Apollo 11 in 1969.

The Moon takes about 27 days to travel around the Earth and return to its starting position.

It takes 28 days for the Moon to orbit the earth and it takes 1 whole year for the Earth to orbit the sun. The Moon reflects light from the Sun, so it doesn't actually glow.

The moon has 8 phases - the new moon; waxing crescent; the first quarter; waxing gibus; full moon; waning gibus; last quarter and waning crescent. An astronaut left on the moon a photograph of his family in case there were any aliens, which could then see what humans look like.

The moon stays in the sky because it is in a delicate orbit around Earth. It orbits at just the right speed to keep going around us. If it went any slower it would come crashing down into earth, any faster and it would whizz of into spaze🌌

A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth's shadow casts down on the moon so you can not see the moon during that. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks out the suns light, the earth goes dark for 20m 🌑➡️🌏😃
